Executive Board Founder & President, Hidden Battles Radio Co-Host

Retired Law Enforcement, Army Veteran

Read Bio

My name is Scott Hyder, and I am the founder of Hidden Battles Foundation. I am a Disabled Veteran who proudly served 10 years in the United States Army as a Combat Engineer, deploying to Kosovo during the Balkans conflict and supporting peacekeeping missions in Kenya and Panama. I was honorably discharged in 2004 with the rank of Sergeant, but my commitment to service didn’t end when I took off the uniform.

Following my military career, I spent nearly two decades in law enforcement, continuing to serve and protect my community. Through both professions, I witnessed firsthand the immense toll that trauma, loss, and constant exposure to crisis can take on those who dedicate their lives to helping others. Like many veterans and first responders, I experienced the weight of those moments personally—through war, traumatic injury, homicide investigations, and the devastating loss that follows when someone dies by suicide.

The suicide of my brother, Nicky Hyder, became a turning point in my life. It forced me to confront the reality that so many people around us are quietly fighting battles we cannot see. That loss inspired me to turn my pain into purpose and commit myself to helping others who may be struggling in silence.

Through years of advocacy and community engagement, I have helped raise more than $750,000 for suicide prevention and mental health awareness initiatives. Those efforts showed me the incredible power of community, connection, and action when people come together for a common cause.

Today, through Hidden Battles Foundation, I work to bring people together through activity-driven programs that support mental health, build resilience, and create spaces where veterans, first responders, and community members know they are not alone. I also speak to audiences of all ages about suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and the importance of reaching out when someone is struggling.

Above all, I am a proud father to my children, Marissa and Cregg, who inspire me every day to keep pushing forward. Throughout my work and daily life, I am also supported by my service dog Junie, who helps me continue this mission of helping others face and overcome their own hidden battles.
