Nicholas J. Hyder III Memorial Scholarship

On June 10, 2012, after not hearing from his brother Nick for a few days, Scott drove to his house only to discover the horror that Nick had taken his own life.

Every year Hidden Battles gives out three (3) total scholarships to deserving seniors in Nick’s memory amongst three technical high schools in Massachusetts:  Greater Lowell Technical High School in Tyngsborough, Nashoba Valley Technical High School in Westford and Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Tewksbury. 

Hidden Battles has a scholarship committee made up of various individuals from the Hidden Battles community who vote on the applications from each school based on the criteria of the scholarship requirements. 

We are delighted to announce the annual opportunity for aspiring students pursuing careers in the fields of medical, law enforcement, or first responders through the Nicholas J. Hyder Scholarship Fund. This scholarship aims to honor the memory of Nicholas J. Hyder by supporting the educational endeavors of promising individuals dedicated to serving their communities.

Scholarship Details:

• Amount: $500
• Number of Awards: Three annually, one at each of the following schools: Greater Lowell Technical High School, Nashoba Technical High School and Shawsheen Technical High School
• Eligible Fields of Study: Medical, Law Enforcement, First Responder
• Selection Process: The scholarship committee, comprised of five esteemed members, will carefully review all applications and select the most deserving candidates based on various criteria, including academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and community service.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited institution for the upcoming academic year.
2. Applicant must be pursuing a degree in a field related to medical, law enforcement, or first responders.
3. Applicant must demonstrate a strong commitment to serving their community and upholding the values exemplified by Nicolas J. Hyder.

Application Requirements:

1. Completed school’s standard scholarship application form. May vary based on school policies.

Awards:  

1. The Committee shall be comprised of Executive and Advisory Board members from Hidden Battles Foundation.
2. The Committee shall coordinate the scholarship application and decision making process in accordance with the policies set forth by the Foundation.
3. All distributions from the Fund shall be awarded on an objective and non-discriminatory basis.

Distributions: 

Funds will be distributed from the Hidden Battles Events Fund at the Greater Lowell Community Foundation. The pass through scholarship request will be sent to GLCF from the HB board and then mailed to each school to distribute at awards nights.
